Desperate Measures: Kayla Abe, co-founder of Ugly Pickle

Let's use up all of that produce from your CSA and make some yummy hummus! For this week on Desperate Measures, Kayla Abe, co-founder of Ugly Pickle, joins Gina for a virtual tutorial on the flexibility of hummus while preventing a little food waste along the way. Ingredients and equipment needed: 1 can of garbanzo/white beans, garlic, any oil (Kayla prefers grapeseed!), lemon or vinegar, tahini, salt, cumin, and paprika (use what you have!). You can also plan to add in any roasted veggies, wilting greens, herbs, or any seeds or spices from your pantry. Food processor or blender is best. Ugly Pickle was co-founded by Assembly member, Kayla Abe, and her partner David. Hearing about the crippling effects of food waste firsthand from farmer friends, Kayla and David felt impassioned to help mend these broken links in our food system. Today, Ugly Pickle Co. is their vision for a viable future of food, a radical paradigm for our new era of sustainable consumption. And their pickles aren't bad either. If you can’t attend and are still looking to support a local business, we'll be donating all ticket sales from this event to support Kayla's company, Ugly Pickle.
